A non-profit scientific organization dedicated to the search for and study of other planetary systems, especially those containing planets habitible by intelligent life.
In 1980, we began the most exciting undertaking intelligent beings could ever encounter, the charting and exploration of other planetary systems. Our generation was the first to participate in a saga that stretches across the entire future of humanity.
As the first participants in this trek across the stars, we have had the privilege of setting goals and charting the way. There were maps to be made, technologies to improve and a financial structure to be laid.
The Directors have joined to form an organization with a very specific purpose, "the detection and study of the planetary systems of other stars, especially those which may contain planets habitable by "intelligent life". This step was taken in response to the development of the first scientific instruments with the ability to sense the planetary systems of other stars and the realization that progress was very dependent upon public support.
Public support is central to the entire effort. A Foundation like ours will better be able to influence government funding policies if we have a long list of patrons. One thousand twenty five dollar contributions speak much louder than one twenty five thousand dollar contribution. Small contributions are very important. Of course, to be truly able to shape the future, we need both types of contributions.
Individually, we can have rather little effect on the future of our species. However, as a group we can begin and continue together, and have an effect that will grow with time. The Extrasolar Planetary Foundation sponsors special drives for much needed equipment and builds an endowment through which gifts become a long range resource for the future. Foundation supporters, can help both financially and by adding your name to a growing list of supporters.
Your gifts are
tax deductible, and are greatly appreciated.
You are invited to become part of the greatest adventure intelligent beings ever encounter.
"We shall not cease from exploration
And the end of all our exploring
Will be to arrive where we started
And know the place for the first time."
T. S. Eliot
