The Extrasolar Planetary Foundations'
The EPF Bernard Oliver Memorial Fund

This fund is named in honor of the late Bernard (Barney) Oliver, former and long-time Vice President for Research at Hewlett Packard Company, member of the SETI Institute Board of Directors, Chief Engineer of the Institute after his retirement from HP, and SETI pioneer.

Less known, was his leadership in a scientific group that included Dr.s John Billingham, Frank Drake, Jesse Greenstein, Phillip Morrison, Carl Sagan, and Charles Townes that conducted the initial investigations of modern techniques used in planet detection today.

It emphasizes Dr. Oliver's pioneering and visionary leadership in many SETI programs including planet detection, and the scientific and engineering wisdom he bestowed to all. This fund recognizes the fact that the Search for Extrasolar Planets is a primary goal which further establishes the foundations and principals of SETI and its goals.

The proceeds of this fund, originally donated by Dr. Oliver and the SETI Foundation to the EPF in 1981, will be made available periodically in the form of EPF Grants or as modest awards of recognition, in the amounts of $1000, to scientists and individuals engaged in the discovery and characterization of extrasolar planetary systems. The EPF has currently funded 1 project and awarded 2 recipiants to date.
